What this site collects

BrickCamp is a static website. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking services, and has no user accounts, comments or contact forms. Nothing you type into the search box is transmitted anywhere — searching and filtering run entirely in your browser against files already downloaded with the page.

Two entries may be stored on your device, in your browser’s local storage: a theme entry remembering whether you chose the light or dark colour scheme, and — only if you use the Linkbox Maker — a microlink-api-key entry holding the key you entered there. Both are stored under § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDG as strictly necessary to provide a function you explicitly requested, which is why this site shows no consent banner. The theme entry never leaves your browser; the stored key is sent to Microlink only when you submit that tool’s form, as described below. Both can be cleared through your browser settings.

Hosting and server log files

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA — a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation. GitHub delivers the pages to your browser. It processes the data described below in part on our behalf and in part — as its own statements about security and legal obligations show — for its own purposes and on its own responsibility.

Like any web server, GitHub processes the technical data your browser transmits when requesting a page: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, referrer URL, browser and operating system. GitHub states that it collects visitor IP addresses from GitHub Pages sites to maintain the security and integrity of the service and to comply with legal obligations. We have no access to these logs and receive no reports or statistics derived from them; GitHub alone determines how long they are retained.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in a technically reliable and secure presentation of the site. Since the site is static and served without accounts or cookies, this log processing is the only processing of personal data that takes place while you browse it; the one exception is the Linkbox Maker described below, which acts only when you use it.

Transfer to the United States

Because GitHub is based in the USA, the log data described above is processed outside the EU. GitHub, Inc. is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, so this transfer takes place on the basis of the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 (Art. 45 GDPR). In addition, GitHub’s data protection agreement incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 (2) (c) GDPR).

Domain

The domain brick.camp is registered through STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany, which operates its name servers. Domain name resolution happens before your browser contacts this site and is handled by your own provider’s resolver, so STRATO does not receive your IP address as a visitor to this site.

The Linkbox Maker is an authoring helper for building link previews. It does nothing unless you open that page and submit its form. When you do, your browser sends the URL you entered — together with the API key, if you supplied one — directly to the metadata service Microlink at api.microlink.io, which retrieves the page behind that URL and returns its title, description and preview image. The request goes from your browser to Microlink; it does not pass through this site, and we neither see nor store it.

Because you trigger this transfer deliberately, the legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, given by submitting the form. Microlink does not state where its servers are located, so processing outside the EU cannot be ruled out; in that case the transfer rests on Art. 49 (1) (a) GDPR. Entries link to external sites such as Flickr, Rebrickable and Bricklink. Once you follow such a link, the privacy policy of the respective operator applies. We have no influence over what data those sites collect.

You have the right to information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of processing (Art. 15 GDPR), as well as the right to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing (Art. 21).
